We met Shelby and Connor at the bridal show Rocked! that was at the Nine’s Hotel early last year. They won our giveaway of a free Love Story film and we are so happy it was them! We filmed their Love Story at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Gardens, which were blooming and beautiful. It was a great way to get to know them and to know the story of how they met and fell in love. Shortly after they received their film, they booked us to film their wedding at the Abernethy Center! Their wedding day went off with few obstacles to overcome, which as a wedding vendor, is saying a lot! A wedding day is a unique event; you never have the same group of vendors, guests, location, and couple again, which is part of the appeal of our job. There are also a lot of unknowns and challenges that arise as a result. This one was eerily smooth and just enjoyable to be apart of.
The day started as most of our weddings do, with me, Aly, filming the bride getting ready with her bridesmaids and Krishna filming the groom getting ready with his guys. The girls got ready at a nearby Airbnb, and the guys got ready at their waterfront apartment that had tons of natural light. Blossom and Beauty started early doing hair and makeup for everyone, with Stephanie as the bride’s makeup artist. I met Krishna’s friend from Maui, Nicole, who just happened to be a bridesmaid and Shelby’s good friend from college! Shelby gave her girls all cute gifts and personal cards, which most got teary-eyed reading.
After preps, we all met up at the Abernethy Center, where Shelby put her dress on that she got from Bridal Exclusives. Shelby did a First Look with her dad and then with her groom, Connor, but first Connor surprised her dad when he thought it was his daughter! The amazing couple, Evan and Melissa, of Roth Family Photography were our allies on this day and were super fun to hang out with and shoot with. It’s awesome when you have photographers you can play off of and get inspiration from each other. Connor’s dad, Tom, officiated the Ceremony, so it was lighthearted and fun, yet very personal to them and their story. They said personal vows to each other, which I always urge couples to do! It makes your film so much more true to the couple, and is heartfelt in the moment.
Cocktail Hour took place under the tent at Abigail’s Garden, while DJ Yusef played a playlist that the groom mixed himself. Alexis from Bridal Bliss made sure everything was perfectly on time and her and her team set up the beautiful reception space. Sammy’s Flowers did the florals for the event, including the bouquets of white roses, table centerpieces, and boutonnieres. People sat down for dinner catered by Haagenson's Catering and Ribslayer BBQ and guests enjoyed cake from Market of Choice. Connor’s twin brother, Neil, gave a hilarious toast about the Barth Brothers Boxing League and Shelby’s sister shared how Shelby was there for her in the ER when she was only 9! Delicious Donuts made bride and groom donuts that were pretty hilarious and the bride and groom literally ate each other. Dj Yusef from Stumptown DJ’s performed a set of popping music and flawless transitions, which as music lovers we always appreciate.
For their grand exit, every single person at the wedding stood in a line with glow sticks and cheered the couple on as the ran to their getaway car! They went straight to the airport to one of our favorite places and Krishna’s home, Maui! Check out their 1-minute Preview above!
